Releases and Communication

Horses communicate and show signs of release with small subtle expressions or movements.  Some will show big things like shifting the back end, yawning, licking and chewing, sighing or blowing or giving a whole body shake or even wanting to lay down and roll, and other stoic horses will only show a lip quiver, a sleepy demeanor, or not show anything at all until you are out of their space.

This mare became so relaxed that she relaxed her TMJ, Hyoid apparatus and her jaw where she was holding a lot of tension.

Youth Intership Summer Program

Balanced Equine Sports is offering a youth internship this summer. Dates to be announced but basically will run late May to Labor Day.


What will be learned and offered:

Interns will receive free weekly ground work and mounted lessons.

Interns will be expected to feed and clean stalls

Interns will have 2 project horses, one to refine that is trained and needs maintenance rides and one that needs started with groundwork.

New start horses if sold will give interns a small commission

Interns will learn how to plan and facilitate a lesson to accommodate needs of the rider and will be supervised

Attendance of one outside clinic with the mentor, which will provide travel and clinic expenses paid for


What will be expected

In addition to lessons and their given projects the following will be expected:


Stall cleaning, feeding, and general cleaning and maintenance

Organizing and cleaning of tack and other barn related items

Learning and assisting with equine bodywork and first aid

Assistance at clinics

Work at the barn at least 2 days, 3 preferred


Interviews will be held for all applicants
